Decade One
Our practitioner groups provide education in business topics important for professional career development to equine practitioners in their first ten years of practice, or first ten years of practice ownership and offer an opportunity to form a network of their peers for ongoing support.
DECADE ONE GROUPS
We’ve found that Decade One members thrive most fully from both educational content AND safe, vulnerable connections with peers who understand and share their challenges. Groups of 20-25 members are formed from veterinarians seeking networking opportunities with peers, interested in helping each other succeed, and wishing to learn more about the business aspects of practice. Members are equine veterinarians in their first decade or so of practice or first decade of practice ownership.
Beginning in 2025, new Decade One group members will have access to an online library of self-paced content videos and workbooks of broad business education topics. Each topic module will be broken down into short, 30-60-minute segments that allow you to view the content when you have the most bandwidth to digest it.
Yearly Meetings
Each month, your Decade One group will meet with your group facilitators via Zoom to catch up, share current challenges or celebrate successes, and discuss the previous month’s content. In addition, there is an ongoing member forum for your questions, concerns, or support for each other between meetings. Each Decade One group meets for 3 years.
An annual in-person meeting will also take place, with all present and former Decade One group members invited, in conjunction with the Sustainability In Equine Practice seminar. (SEPS) During the annual meeting, each Decade One group will have personalized small group time to catch up with one another, in addition to having the opportunity to choose to register and participate in the sustainability seminar schedule provided by the SEPS team.
Group Facilitators
Decade One facilitators facilitate meaningful exchange between the members, and provide ongoing support between meetings.
Amy Grice VMD, MBA and Andy Clark DVM, MBA were the facilitators of the first Decade One groups in 2015, after which Dr. Grice was the sole facilitator. In 2023, a group of dedicated Decade One graduate veterinarians began facilitating Decade One and Starting Gate groups. Dr. Grice continues to be involved with each group, and provides the majority of the business content.
The Decade One groups formed beginning in 2025 that interact with the self-paced curriculum have three co-facilitators, Drs. Stacey Cordivano, Misty Gray, and Kelly Zeytoonian.
